Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can reach me anytime via my contact page or email at victoria@victoriasimpson.co.uk . I aim to respond quickly—usually within 48 hours.

  • Getting started is simple. Send me a message through the contact form or via email letting me know you are interested in learning more about working with me. I will then contact you to arrange a free consultation call, where you can share what you are looking for from counselling. I can tell you more about what it is like to work with me and answer any questions along the way.

  • I offer in person individual counselling sessions to adults either at my new counselling rooms located near Clapham Junction (Battersea, South London), online (to clients in the UK) or as walk and talk sessions in local parks in South London. Follow this link to learn more

  • I charge £80 per 50 minute session. Each session is payable in advance and can be paid before each session or in blocks of 4 sessions. Full payment terms and methods are provided before we have our first session.

  • I have a special interest in supporting women who feel stretched between the competing demands of family, work, and friendships, while navigating significant life transitions such as identity shifts, bereavement, new beginnings at work, or perimenopause and menopause.

Rather than working as a generalist, my practice is intentionally focused on this stage of life, allowing for a deeper understanding of the emotional strain, overwhelm, and uncertainty that often sit beneath the surface. This means you don’t have to spend time explaining the context of your life — we can focus on what you need and how to move forward in a way that feels realistic, ethical, and supportive.

  • Each counsellor is trained in their chosen counselling approach or approaches. We then learn how to integrate our skills and apply them to individual client relationships. As counsellors we also bring our own life experience and the benefit of the counselling work we have undertaken with our own counsellors. This gives us greater awareness of ourselves, how we relate to others and what it is like as a client to go through a counselling experience. With this individual mix of training and experience in any counsellor, the task at the beginning of any therapeutic relationship is to decide if we think we are a good fit and whether we can build a working relationship based on trust, compassion and shared goals. I will support you by encouraging open, ongoing conversations about how our work is going, so we can keep your needs and what you’re hoping for at the heart of our sessions.

In my work, I integrate person-centred working with a psychodynamic approach. These modalities give us a framework that helps us explore what is happening in the present and how this is impacted by your past experiences. How much we explore of the past and present depends on what you are working on and how you prefer to work. The integration of these modalities also means we have the foundation of empathy, no judgement, compassion, respect and autonomy to our therapeutic relationship. My aim is that you experience a supportive relationship that is working towards a clear goal and defined timeline.

  • Yes. When we start working together we discuss how we protect confidentiality, so that you can feel reassured and comfortable sharing with me. There are a few situations where I am required to share information with other services and we discuss those before we start our work together.

  • Online counselling lets you connect from a private, comfortable room — usually in your home or at work — using a secure video platform. You will need a laptop or PC with a camera, microphone, and good internet connection, plus a private room where you can talk freely.

Sessions are 50 minutes, just like in-person counselling. All sessions follow the BACP Ethical Framework and are completely confidential.

I have done advanced training in online counselling, so can guide you in how to set up online and prepare you for how it may feel different from in-person counselling.

  • I work online only with clients located in the UK so I can practise safely and ethically within UK law, professional standards, and safeguarding procedures. This ensures clear accountability, appropriate support if needed, and that the work is fully covered by my professional insurance.

  • Walk and talk counselling is a way to have therapy while walking outdoors. It’s still professional counselling — just in a format that can feel lighter and less formal. It might suit clients that prefer to keep moving whilst talking side by side rather than face to face. Some clients like to combine the session with some fresh air during their working day. Others combine a session with a baby nap time.

Sessions last 50 minutes, the same as an in room or online counselling session.

Your safety and confidentiality are always taken seriously. I choose safe routes, assess your suitability for this type of counselling, and everything you share is held in confidence according to the BACP Ethical Framework.

We do not usually cancel sessions for wet or cold weather, unless it is particularly stormy. All you need to bring is comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
